Question: Hello Kitty infringement laws?

I am creating a small t shirt line and would like to use the Hello Kitty cat, but alter her look a bit and also use the “Hello” part of the logo. Do i need a trademark clearance for this or since it is different then the original it is ok?

Answer: Whether it is OK depends on how much of the Hello Kitty design is used and how much is changed. It would be difficult for a trademark attorney to provide good guidance on this question in the absence of actually seeing your design and comparing it to the Hello Kitty design.
